Entitled Arts Policy, Cultural Democracy and Artist Communities, the event saw the coming together of researchers, artists, culture workers, activists, and members of both the public and private sectors, to unpack and demystify the process of policy-making and cultural governance.<\/p>\n<p>Conceived as a \u201cconversation\u201d rather than a conference, the gathering was structured as a series of presentations and discussions. Day 1 focused on Malaysia with overviews and critiques of policy history and examples of direct action by practitioners in order to frame a discussion about support structures for the arts within a clearer understanding of Malaysian cultural governance.
